"Kiln" you handle it? Finally, a precious metal that bends to your will. (Can you say that about anything else in your life right now?) Turn up the heat and get fired up about this new artistic medium!
It stands to reason that Precious Metal Clay was developed in the Ring of Fire, Japan. In the 1990s, scientists developed a recipe that included metal flakes (mircon size), water and organic binders. Julia Child would say, "Blend well and bake." Heat burns away the water and binders and you get fused precious metal, perfect for jewelry-making or sculpture.
Fancy yourself a clay chef? Come cook some clay with us. The goal of the Tieke PMC and Creativity Center is to promote the art of Precious Metal Clay jewelry-making and encourage student-artists to develop their personal/creative skills.
